Why Block YouTube Channels?

how to block youtube channels

It is fairly easy to block channels on YouTube. As for the why, well the reasons vary.  One reason for blocking YouTube channels is to prevent users from commenting on your videos or channel. They will still be able to watch your videos but all their previous comments will be hidden and  will no longer be able to post new comments on your videos or channel. This is one way to prevent cyberbullies and online trolls from interacting with you and your other viewers and subscribers.

Many would also block YouTube channels to avoid seeing videos from that channel. Parents, for instance, would block channels on their kids’ accounts to minimize their exposure to inappropriate content. Some also block channels they used to subscribe to after realizing the channel’s content is negatively affecting their body image and self-esteem.

In the case of blocking as part of digital parenting, it is a good first step. However, this may not be enough. There is a myriad of YouTube channels and it’s not always easy to weed out those that show inappropriate or harmful content. Some channels seem innocent enough and safe enough for younger viewers but could be the total opposite. In addition to taking advantage of YouTube parental controls, you might want to use reliable monitoring software to keep track of your kids’ online habits.
